随着医学的进步，艾滋病已经成为一种可防可控的慢性病。
虽然还没有实现对艾滋病的治愈，但是通过积极规范的治疗，
感染者可以达到和健康人群一样的预期寿命。
目前，我国的HIV输血传播已经基本阻断，
静脉吸毒传播和母婴传播得到有效控制，
性传播成为主要传播途径。
截至2019年10月底，全国报告存活感染者约96万。
加强HIV艾滋病防控，提供多元化的用药选择十分必要。
《中国艾滋病诊疗指南（2018版）》指出，艾滋病是长期用药治疗的慢性病，
患者进行抗病毒治疗的目标是：最大程度地减少病毒载量，
将其维持在不可检测水平的时间越长越好，使免疫功能得到恢复，
降低病死率和HIV相关性疾病的发病率，
延长生命并提高生活质量，减少艾滋病的传播。
